B.Tech is one of the most demanding , popular and the best job oriented course in India
The Bachelor Of Technology Commonly Known As B.Tech is the most popular and demanding undergraduate engineering course that can be picked up after 12th with science stream. In India It is a professional undergraduate academic degree awarded to the students after completion of four years of academic study in engineering field at an accredit university. It is offered in many disciplines. There is a huge craze among the young students for engineering. Mostly science stream students. They want to become engineer and opt. this course after the completion of 12th B.Tech. has a greater emphasis on match and science, to allow the engineers to move from one discipline to another.
In the fields of engineering based on civil, mechanical, computer science, aeronautical, aerospace, chemical engineering and other B.tech courses all are of four years
To get admission in B.E. or BTech course in engineering field, it is important to have 12th pass in physics, chemistry and maths as mentioned in the above criteria.
The duration of undergraduate engineering course varies from country to country.
Many Colleges/Universities of India offers This programme in various disciplines.
The four year B.Tech programme comprises of 8 semesters.
The first four semesters of the programmes are devoted to theoretical hands-on laboratory training in Programme Core, Basic Sciences and foundational courses from Professional Core.
After that this is followed by advances courses spread over the next three semesters along with an R&D projects.
The final semester is dedicated to Industry Practice i.e. IP wherein students get to work on real-life projects outside the college and in the industry for six months leading to the completion of the BTech programme.
Nearly one-third of the curriculum can be individualised by the student. Thus this Programme is the sum total of education measures undertaken to develop holistic and responsible individuals with life-long learning capability as there is a strong emphasis to ensure that students ‘Learn to Learn’.
In simple words we can say that, “BTech is that undergraduate course after which you can become an engineer

Time to Complete
8 semester
Bachelor of Technology is also known as Bachelor of Engineering in many institutions.
Study curriculum is same for the both B.Tech. and B.E. The term engineering comes from Latin word ‘Ingenium’ means ‘Cleverness’ and ‘Ingeniare’
means ‘to create’.
So from the given meanings we can conclude that what this BTech is exactly meant.
Eligibility For B.Tech or B.E | |
10+2 or equivalent with physics chemistry maths as compulsory subjects | Merit in JEE Mains exam and other state and university level entrance exam preferred |
At least 50% marks in 10+2 for Gen category and 45% marks for Sc,st categories |
In India, B.Tech. and BE are the same and offered in engineering disciplines.
But for the knowledge of students we are here to tell you the main difference between them
The better way to understand this question is with the difference between university and institute. Firstly you should know the difference between these two terms.
The university which usually offers degrees in various fields such as arts, business and science along with engineering names, the degree is referred as Bachelor of Engineering.
While coming to Bachelor of Technology, institutes that offer only the professional courses in engineering, name the program as BTech.
Now let us discuss about the main objectives in both the
terms B.E. and BTech.
Bachelor of Engineering
This course talks about the basic concepts and fundamentals of theoretical knowledge.
It focuses more on internships and industrial visits. The universities that offer other degrees such as science and arts along with engineering name it as BE.
Bachelor of Technology
This a skill-oriented course and students will witness the practical applications rather than theoretical aspects.
As the course is focused on the practical application, it will be up to date.
Institutes such as IITs and NITs that offer only degrees in engineering name the program as B.Tech. In a nut shell, we can say that B.Tech emphasises more on practical application, while B.E. program concentrates more on the theoretical knowledge that is applied to develop equipment and gadgets in the field of science.
