M.tech/m.E is a two year master level professional post graduate degree.and offered in various specialisations

m.tech masters of technology

Engineering has been one of the most popular courses in India, here thousands of students across India, work towards pursuing a career in Engineering.Today we are going to tell you about the Master’s in Engineering (M.E) or Master’s of Technology (M.Tech) The acronym of Master of Technology is M.Tech.It is a post graduate program that comes under the discipline of technology. In India, a Master of Engineering (M.E.) or a Master of Technology(M.Tech.) degree is a postgraduate program in engineering field. It is generally a 2-year program after completing a 4-year undergraduate degree in engineering(Bachelor of Engineering-B.E. or Bachelor of Technology – B.Tech.) Integrated ME./MTech. degree (B.E./B.Tech. + ME./MTech.) program of 5-year duration is also offered by many institutions. MTech courses are equivalent to M.S degrees and M.Phil. degrees in science and humanity where as it treated to be lesser than Ph.D. level. M.Tech provides you the insight and deep knowledge of the subjects that you have studied in your B.Tech course. Many well-known institutions run the MTech programme. There are also many colleges in India which offers M.Tech in part-time or distance mode. MTech course focuses mainly on the implementation of existing technologies and give gateway towards technical research. M.Tech course has tremendous specialisation according to one’s undergraduate degree in engineering undergraduate. Anyone who has graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology is eligible to take up this course. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, etc. are some of the  demanding master’s degree in the market.

In India, the ME/MTech degree is offered across various specialisations. These specialisations include Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering,Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, VLSI, Mechanical Engineering,Electronics and Communication Engineering etc.

As we have done the differentiate between B.tech and B.E in our previous post of B.Tech. Now here we will differentiate MTech and ME. to make you fully understandable about difference between the following terms.

M.Tech (Masters of Technology):-As we know the full form of MTech is masters of Technology. From here we can easily get the meaning of Masters of Technology(MTech). MTech. is designed to produce Research Engineers who can get the position of “Technologist” in the industries and research institutes. It emphasises on practical exposure of conceptual knowledge. It is more of a skill oriented. MTech. involves use of technology and other aided stuff. M.Tech. is  offered by colleges affiliated by various universities.

M.E (Masters of Engineering):-M.E ( Masters of Engineering) is more of a knowledge oriented. M.E. is usually designed for students who plan for employment upon graduation and who are already in the engineering workforce. It emphasises on in-depth concept clarification of facts. M.E. is mostly preferred by private universities or self-affiliated colleges. For instance IIT. It is conventional term used for majorly theory based study.

Eligibility Criteria:-
To be eligible for admission to MTech or ME, candidates must have passed the
qualifying examinations of all semesters in B.Tech/B.E The candidate has to write a
relevant entrance examination which is State PGCET, GATE specific university
entrance tests, etc on the basis of which they will be ranked and selected for the
relevant streams.
Students with higher rankings are given the preference for more subject options and
top universities. MCA candidates are also eligible to apply for specialisations available in areas of computer science engineering. The course is also open for candidates who have obtained diplomas and have the required years of work experience.

Admissions into M.Tech programme is purely done through the national level or state level entrance exam. Desirous candidates have to appear the entrance exam for taking admission. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2018) is the all India level examination which provides admission in IITs. GATE scores are also accepted by many reputed engineering institutions.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering [GATE): Entrance Exam for MTech]:-GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The exam checks the aspirants’knowledge of a specific domain which was covered during his Graduation (B.E or B. Tech orB. Arch). GATE is jointly conducted by the IITs and IISc Bangalore on behalf of the NationalCoordination Board (GATE -MHRD). For those who have a good hold over technical subjectsof engineering and also have a keen interest to enhance their skills in the same arena, GATE is the route of entry to the recognised Post Graduate or Doctoral programs in India.
GATE is required for admission to M.Tech, M.E or Ph.D. programmes in various MHRD recognised colleges all over the country and as a basic requirement for fellowship program.
Jobs & career prospects for M.Tech:-
Well B.Tech is enough to get good job in engineering field but if you’ve M.Tech degree along with B.Tech then, it expands your career prospects. After M.Tech, you can easily find job in research and development organizations, manufacturing firms and IT companies as Project Manager, Research Associate and Senior Engineers. Besides being hired as Engineers, Project Manager, etc. ME/MTech graduates are also hired as consultants, subject matter experts, researchers, managers, etc. There are plenty of jobs available for the ones who are looking for a career in Engineering and research.

Here are some of the popular job profiles for ME/M.Tech graduates.
Computer Science Engineer,Chief Engineer, Assistant Engineer ,Lecturer, Executive Engineer ,Researcher,Software Engineer ,

Ceramic Engineer , Mechanical Engineer ,Software Developer,Electronics Engineer , Civil Engineer.
At some point where many technically skilled competitors are available but you will be given preference because of your higher qualification. Candidate possessing a higher degree is considered more capable for the job. It will not only adds value to your qualification but also expands the career scope and job opportunities for you in future. M.Tech degree will enable you to secure higher position in an organisation.
Engineers can easily find employment in central and state government organisations like Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd., etc. Teaching career is always open for M.Tech students. After holding master’s degree, they can apply in any prestigious engineering institution for the post of professor.
